FASCISM IN SPAIN, ITALY & GERMANY
Nationalism spread rapidly throughout
Europe and took hold in countries such as
Spain, Italy and Germany. In Spain, the fas-
cist dictator, Francisco Franco engulfed his
country into a bloody civil war after a failed
coup attempt in 1936. Adolf Hitler, who had
gained the Chancellorship of Germany in
1933, saw the Spanish conflict as a way of
testing his ‘Blitzkrieg’ weapons of war and
supported the Franco regime by supplying
aircraft, troops and weapons.
